Rachel Maddow Exposes Rick Perry's Pseudo-Christianity

Rachel Maddow needs to soon be named a national treasure! That's how invaluable her political insights have been in the last year. She puts a laser focus on crucial items that escape most of our somnolent press-media and with which we'd be hopelessly unaware without her input. Readers may recall, for example, her detailed piece barely three months ago - after Bin Laden was killed- noting how his aim was never primarily death and destruction in 9-11, but rather the financial bankruptcy of the nation by enticing it to stupidly wage a long, unwinnable and costly war that drains our treasury. This is exactly what's happened, as the S&P downgrade provides further evidence for, but who's paying attention? Our politicos seem to be off in their own little zones on this issue!

Her latest coup was last night, exposing the detestable fake "Christianity" espoused by Texas Governor Rick Perry. That program ought to have been required viewing for all Americans of voting age, especially showing how Perry is using religion to stir up a particularly nasty niche of white, hate-frenzied fundamentalist voters to his cause. This is something the real Christ would reject with every fiber of his being (whether or not one regards him as divine.)

One thing Yeshua ceaselessly warned about was the "whited sepulchre" - the professed moral follower who's actual heart was darker than pitch. Such a person is Rick Perry.

Last night, Maddow made special reference to Perry's "prayer' event, which "raised eyebrows," for involving pastors known for the most extreme, conservative views. A number of the pastors have something more in common.

Explained Maddow:

"Many of them are part of a little-known, very specific religious and political movement... The New Apostolic Reformation."

According to a cover story in the Texas Observer this month:

http://www.texasobserver.org/cover-story/rick-perrys-army-of-god

pastors in the movement believe themselves to be modern day prophets or apostles, directly linked to God. Their aim, explained the article author Forrest Wilder, is "to infiltrate government, and Rick Perry might be their man."

This is totally reprehensible, as the REAL Christ had no use for entanglements in political chicanery, conspiracy or agendas. His motto was:

"Render unto Caesar that which is Caesar's and unto God that which is God's"

Indeed, as the Augustan "Hippie" he was (according to John Dominic Crossan, in his masterful book The Historical Jesus: The Life of a Mediterranean Jewish Peasant), he practiced a studied suspicion of all political intrigues and particulary warned his followers against becoming involved in them. They were to keep their eyes and motives directed to the "kingdom" in the present and the master's practice of common "eating and healing". In this way, all were brought into his fold, there were no "outcasts" as Perry displayed in his event (for example, no non-Christians were allowed to partake, whether Hindus, Muslims, or Buddhists).

Back to Rachel:

The new prophets and apostles believe certain Christians are destined to not just take “dominion” over government, but stealthily climb to the commanding heights of what they term the “Seven Mountains” of society, including the media and the arts and entertainment world. They believe they're intended to lord over it all. As a first step, they’re leading an 'army of God' to commandeer civilian government.

This again radically contravenes every last thing Christ stood for, and he'd have been appalled that his professed followers would even remotely conceive taking over materialist trappings of government, media, and entertainment. He'd have surely declared all of them vipers or "whited sepulchres".

Just days before Perry is expected to announce his presidential run, Maddow expressed concern that the Texas governor was able to hold a very public prayer event, largely organized by members of this group, without the Beltway media exposing who they really are.

But we know the Beltway media aren't really "liberals" as some goofy bloggers claim, but rather part and parcel of the neo-Liberal corporate empire whose primary goal is profits. Thus, they won't touch anything that remotely might affect those profits, including the corporate (oil, natural gas etc.) lobbies and outfits that back Perry, many of which have holdings in the interlocking directorates and boards that govern the major Beltway newspapers etc.

In this case, people must access media, including blogs, outside the matrix of delusion and stupor which lead them to be less aware. In this upcoming election, therefore, it would be a catastrophe of the gravest proportions to install someone like Perry into power. A wolf in sheep's clothing who professes being "saved" by his Jesus, but whose actions the real Jesus would reject out of hand as vile, despicable and very un-Christian in the sense of extolling hate (as for Oprah Winfrey and the mythical "Harlot") and not tolerance and love.

Most revolting was Maddow's playing a tape of one of these repugnant pastors and his declaration that the Japanese tsunami and all the attendant deaths were a direct result of followig a "Sun god" and Sun Empire. He also implied that all the dead Japanese likely ended up in "Hell". In this sense, he's no different from Fred Phelps and his Hell mania against the troops!

Perry, his "religion" (like Fred Phelps) and his clan and organization all need to be rejected by truly religious people and all right thinking citizens!

Thanks, Rachel, for your much appreciated (and needed) expose!
